Loved up Lockdown

Normally I feel at ease being a single woman in London, but the new era we inhabit is far from normal! This lockdown situation has triggered a lot of feelings around being single. I hope in sharing this, if you too are feeling a little lonely, perplexed, or unsure of how best to deal with lockdown this might soothe you.

Seeing couples and families cosily hunkering down filled me with longing, made me miss my own family and made my heart ache for the partner and family I dream of.  Whilst the prospect of hunkering down with a lover (who you’ve never spent more than 24 hours with) might sound glamorous or exciting, the reality could be far from idyllic!

Fleeting encounters – maybe they are an escape, a safe harbour from the high seas of daily life; an intoxicating adventure; a full-throttle clinch where time stands still; each interlude a little life, illuminated by rose-tinted possibility but untainted by the normal challenges of a relationship. Trying to elongate this feeling for any significant period of time could be a high-risk strategy, like turning a mini-break into a 3 week trip.

The one thing I am sure of, more than ever, is that nothing really makes sense except love. During these days, all I want to do is to love and nurture myself as deeply as I can, to let my friends, family and loved ones know that I love them,  to hold space for anyone experiencing fear, grief or panic.

Any attempt to exert control or think about future plans feels as futile as trying to climb a greasy pole. The world is evolving at an unprecedented pace. We have to roll with the changes and be in a state of becoming and surrender.

I told a coupled-up friend how lucky he was to be in a loved up lockdown. ‘The grass isn’t always greener’ he replied. There will be challenges for all of us, whether we are single, newly loved up, married for a lifetime or recently separated; Let’s just focus on oneness and universality, knowing that we are all in this together. We are all vulnerable, we are all flawed, we are all dealing with a Tsunami of emotions. Let’s make an extra effort to be loving, compassionate and understanding towards each other.

Just as nature re-generates; as the sun shines brighter, the birds sing louder, the starry night sky shimmers more brilliantly, so too we are re-generating, re-connecting with spirit, with nature, with our true authentic voice. We have the chance to evolve into the highest version of ourselves, surrender gracefully into the endless ocean of our heart space and shape-shift into The New Earth.
